One moment you’re riding with Muir on a snow avalanche - could be Mt. Stevens - next climbing up a 500 foot ice cone at the base of the Yosemite Fall, then rocking and reeling on a tall Douglas fir he climbed on a windy day. A perilous night on stormy Mount Shasta, an invigorating sled-trip on an Alaskan glacier, and a half dozen other joyful encounters with the Yosemite wilderness are among these exciting and witty stories, all of which led Muir to his spirited defense of wild lands and wild creatures.
